Arrival & Briefing Day
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your accommodation near Moshi. After checking in, enjoy time to relax following your journey. Later in the day, your experienced mountain guide will meet you for a detailed briefing covering the Rongai Route, safety procedures, altitude awareness, and daily trekking expectations. A full equipment and gear check will ensure you are well prepared for the climb. Dinner will be served at the lodge, allowing you to enjoy a nutritious meal before the adventure begins.

Day 1 – Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive approximately two to three hours to the Rongai Nalemoru Gate near the Kenyan border. Following registration, the trek begins through lush forest terrain where wildlife such as black and white colobus monkeys may be seen. Lunch will be enjoyed on the trail as you gradually gain altitude. The hike is gentle and allows you to adjust comfortably to the mountain environment. Upon arrival at Simba Camp, your crew will have tents prepared. Enjoy a freshly cooked dinner and your first overnight on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2 – Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
After breakfast, you will continue your ascent, leaving the forest behind and entering open moorland with impressive views of Mawenzi Peak. The morning climb is steeper, and you may start to feel the effects of altitude. You will explore the first cave before stopping for lunch near the second cave. The afternoon walk becomes more gradual, crossing scenic alpine terrain to Kikelewa Camp, located in a sheltered valley. On arrival, relax as your team prepares a warm dinner. The evening is spent resting and acclimatizing for the higher days ahead.

Day 3 – Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn
Today’s trek is shorter but steeper, allowing for gradual acclimatization. After breakfast, you will hike upward through rugged terrain with sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. As you approach Mawenzi Tarn, the dramatic spires of Mawenzi Peak dominate the skyline, creating a true wilderness atmosphere. Lunch is served at camp, giving you the afternoon to rest and adjust to the altitude. The campsite offers stunning views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and a peaceful overnight stay beneath the towering cliffs of Mawenzi.

Day 4 – Acclimatization Walk at Mawenzi Tarn
After a relaxed breakfast, you will remain at Mawenzi Tarn for a full acclimatization day. A guided acclimatization walk will take you higher into the surrounding terrain, helping your body adapt to the altitude. Depending on your condition, the hike may be a steep climb on scree slopes or a gentler route toward the lunar desert and ridge. You will return to camp for a hot lunch, followed by an afternoon of rest and hydration. Dinner will be served at camp as you prepare for the upcoming saddle crossing and summit approach.

Day 5 – Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Huts
After breakfast, you will start the crossing of the wide saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, a stark and otherworldly landscape with expansive views. Although the elevation gain is modest, the terrain is exposed and can be windy. Lunch will be enjoyed upon arrival at Kibo Huts, located directly below Kilimanjaro’s summit cone. In the afternoon, your guide will provide a detailed summit briefing, covering timing, safety, and pacing. An early dinner will be served before you rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 6 – Summit Day: Kibo Huts to Uhuru Peak
Around midnight, you will depart Kibo Huts with headlamps, beginning the challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak. The climb is slow and steady, with regular breaks as you navigate steep switchbacks toward Gilman’s Point. After reaching the crater rim, continue along the gradual path to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending back to Kibo Huts for brunch. You will then continue down to Horombo Huts, where dinner is served and a well-earned rest awaits after this long and demanding day.

Day 7 – Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the heathland and lush cloud forest toward Marangu Gate. This scenic hike takes approximately five to six hours and marks the completion of your Kilimanjaro trek. Upon arrival at the gate, you will sign out and receive your summit certificates. You will then be transferred back to Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and relaxation. Enjoy a celebratory dinner at your hotel as you reflect on your incredible achievement and the journey you have completed.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
