Go on the thrilling 7 Days Machame Route Kilimanjaro Trek, an extraordinary journey to the roof of Africa. Beginning in Arusha, you’ll be welcomed at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your lodge for a full briefing and equipment check. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” the Machame Path offers some of the most stunning scenery on the mountain, winding through lush tropical forests, giant heather zones, volcanic deserts, and alpine landscapes. Over six days, you will trek past iconic landmarks such as Picnic Rock, Lava Tower, and the Barranco Wall, gradually gaining altitude while acclimatizing safely. Each stage of the trek combines adventure with comfort, including well-prepared meals and cozy camps or lodges.
The highlight of your journey is summit day, beginning in the early hours from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. Tour Details
Arrival Day: Arrival & Briefing – Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your lodge in Moshi. Later in the day, your mountain guide will conduct a detailed trek briefing, safety orientation, and equipment check to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb. Any missing gear can be hired locally. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing, enjoying the lodge facilities, and acclimating to the environment. An early dinner is served to help you rest before the adventure begins.

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration before beginning your climb. The trail winds through lush rainforest filled with towering trees, moss, and birdlife. This region receives frequent rainfall, so trails may be muddy and slippery. The steady ascent gradually opens into the giant heather zone before reaching Machame Camp. Arrive in the afternoon and settle into camp while porters prepare meals. Enjoy dinner and rest under the forest canopy as your body begins adapting to altitude.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Today’s trek begins with a steep climb up a ridge leading to Picnic Rock, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak and the Shira Plateau. The trail transitions from forest to moorland, revealing expansive alpine scenery. Once on the Shira Plateau, the walk becomes gentler across open landscapes shaped by ancient volcanic activity. On clear days, panoramic views are spectacular. Arrive at Shira Camp by afternoon, enjoy warm meals, and relax while watching the sun set over Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
This is a crucial acclimatization day. Trek steadily through alpine desert terrain toward Lava Tower, reaching a higher altitude before descending again. Lunch is served near Lava Tower, where dramatic volcanic formations dominate the landscape. Afterwards, descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, passing giant senecio plants. Though elevation gain is significant, sleeping lower helps your body adjust. Arrive at Barranco Camp nestled below the imposing Barranco Wall. Enjoy dinner and rest surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, begin the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. This exciting scramble is non-technical and rewarded with spectacular views. From the top, traverse undulating terrain with sweeping views of Kibo and Mount Meru. Descend briefly into Karanga Valley before a final short ascent to Karanga Camp. The walking day is shorter, allowing extra rest and acclimatization. Spend the afternoon relaxing, hydrating, and enjoying the mountain atmosphere before dinner.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Today you continue ascending toward Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt. The landscape becomes stark and rocky as you approach the high alpine desert. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, settle in early, enjoy lunch, and rest as much as possible. Your guide will brief you on summit night procedures. Dinner is served early, followed by a short rest before the midnight wake-up call.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit day begins shortly after midnight. Ascend slowly toward Stella Point, reaching the crater rim at sunrise. Continue along the ridge to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Barafu for lunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp. This is a long and challenging day, but incredibly rewarding. Enjoy dinner and a well-earned rest.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The trail is scenic and often home to monkeys and birds. At the gate, complete park formalities and receive your summit certificates. You will then be transferred back to your lodge in Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and a celebration dinner.

Departure
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the lodge before checking out. Depending on your flight schedule, you may transfer directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport or continue with onward travel in Tanzania. Depart with unforgettable memories of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro via the scenic Machame Route.
