The trail gently undulates, offering opportunities to spot Colobus monkeys and rich birdlife. After 2–3 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Big Tree Camp, where your crew will have prepared camp and a hot meal. This short trekking day allows for a relaxed start and initial acclimatization.

Today’s trek is vital for acclimatization. You will steadily climb through alpine desert terrain to Lava Tower at 4,600 meters, where lunch is served. This high point helps your body adapt to altitude. Afterwards, you descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley, passing giant Senecio plants unique to Kilimanjaro. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The day begins with the exhilarating scramble up the Barranco Wall, a highlight of the route offering fantastic views back over the valley. Though steep, it is non-technical and very rewarding. After reaching the top, the trail traverses the mountainside with stunning views of Kibo and Mount Meru. You then descend into the Karanga Valley before a final short climb to camp. The trek takes approximately 3–4 hours, leaving time to rest and continue acclimatizing.

From camp, enjoy incredible views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. An early dinner is served, followed by rest in preparation for the summit attempt later that night.
