Tour Details

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, you depart for Londorossi Gate, a scenic drive of about four hours. Upon arrival, registration and entry formalities are completed while the crew prepares equipment. You then continue by vehicle to Shira Gate, where the trek begins. The hike is short and gentle, passing through shrubs and giant heather across the Shira Plateau. This relaxed start allows your body to begin adjusting to altitude. You arrive at Simba Camp, your accommodation for the night.

Accommodation: Simba Camp

Meals: Lunch And Dinner

After breakfast at Simba Camp, you begin a leisurely trek across the open Shira Plateau. Today’s hike is intentionally easy to support acclimatization. The trail winds through grassy moorland dotted with volcanic rock formations and offers wide views of the surrounding landscape. You take time to explore the impressive Shira Cathedral, a dramatic rock formation rising sharply from the plateau. After a scenic walk, you arrive at Shira 2 Camp, set on a gentle slope with views of Kibo Peak.

Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

After breakfast, you leave Shira 2 Camp and continue eastward, gradually ascending toward the Lava Tower. The terrain becomes drier and more rugged as you enter the alpine desert zone. Reaching the Lava Tower provides valuable high-altitude exposure before descending again. After lunch near the tower, you descend through the surreal Senecio Forest, known for its giant groundsels. This “climb high, sleep low” day greatly aids acclimatisation. You arrive at Barranco Camp, located beneath the towering Barranco Wall.

Accommodation: Barranco Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

The day begins with breakfast at Barranco Camp, followed by a descent into a ravine before tackling the famous Great Barranco Wall. Though steep, the climb is non-technical and rewarding, offering stunning views once you reach the top. The trail then undulates across ridges and valleys, providing a mix of ascents and descents. You later descend into Karanga Valley and make a final climb to Karanga Camp. This shorter day allows for further acclimatization and rest.

Accommodation: Karanga Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

After breakfast, you leave Karanga Camp and join the trail that connects with the Mweka Route. The path steadily climbs through rocky alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp. As you gain altitude, vegetation becomes sparse and temperatures drop. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, you are positioned on the southern circuit with impressive views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The afternoon is dedicated to resting, hydrating, and preparing for the summit attempt. An early dinner is served before retiring for the night.

Accommodation: Barafu Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

Around midnight, after a light snack, you begin the challenging summit ascent under the stars. The slow climb leads you to Stella Point, then onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,341 ft. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable and emotional experience. After photos and celebration, you descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for lunch and rest. The journey continues downhill to Mweka Camp, where you spend the night.

Accommodation: Mweka Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

After breakfast at Mweka Camp, you begin the final descent through lush rainforest. The trail can be muddy and slippery, especially at lower elevations, but the air is warmer and richer in oxygen. After several hours of hiking, you reach Mweka Gate, where you complete park formalities and receive your summit certificates. From here, you continue to Mweka Village, where a vehicle awaits to transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha. This marks the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
